Q: My laptop heats too much. And the most strange is that it heated too much at the beginning, about half to a hour later, it seemed better. And so is the display, is this normal? Are there some tips or methods to relieve the problem of heating too much when the power adapter gets boiling hot?

A: Laptop is a heater, and general heat is quite normal. However, excessive heat will cause instability and shorten its life. I think your situation is quite normal if it causes no trouble in using. But anti-heating for laptop shoulder heavy responsibilities especially in hot summer.

Next is the explanation for why laptop heat too much and cool a little after running for a long time, and some tips to cool down the “heater”.

We know that though the laptop is small, it includes all components which PC has, such as mainboard, CPU, Graphic card, hard disk. They are all high heaters which are heaped together closely in a narrow space. That’s really difficult to exhaust heat. Besides, latest laptop CPU frequency becomes higher and higher while hard disk speed gets faster and faster. Lots of kinds of unscientific designs make laptop a burner.

So we need to make up these faults with our careful protection.

First of all, we should pay attention to the surrounding conditions. Laptop is advised to use at some places with good ventilation, air-conditioned room is sure good. We must make sure that the thermal hole is clean without any covers or shielding, and don’t put it close to flammable stuffs. You can also boost the back at the bottom a little high to save certain interspaces between the bottom of laptop and desk, which is not only helpful for radiating, but also more comfortable to use with an oblique angle.

Secondly, notice the battery mode. When the power management solution is “Desktop”, CPU works at full speed, which consumes much electricity and produces a large quantity of heat. With “portable, pocket” solution, the laptop will optimize the power management according to your operations. System will adjust the running speed of CPU automatically, which helps to power saving and lower temperature.

If you feel a little troublesome and passive to do these talked above, a dedicated cooling pad for laptop is available to help you out. And most laptops have the function of “High-temperature protection”, that when the laptop inspect itself to certain high-temperature, it will automatically slow CPU speed while accelerate the fan to radiate more effectively. That’s probably why the temperature reduces after running for a while. Furthermore, power adapter cools down the temperature by placing it vertically with fewer contact area, which switches heat with air better. Otherwise, place a CPU radiator from PC above power adapter to help radiate heating. Adding a USB fan also help a lot. You can choose one solution depending on different situations.
